We have our meetings in the hall:

on the third Sunday morning of each month (except in July – no meeting – and in August – last Sunday of the month) from 9.30 am!

* New members will be introduced in the world of conchology, the study of those beautiful shells and on how to become a responsible collector.

* At each meeting there is a lecture on a travel report, a special genus or family, animated with slides or digital photographs.

* New published books and the latest issues of periodicals can be judged.

* Members are initiated into collecting skills such as fieldwork, cleaning and preparation of shells, identification of the different species, storing and classification of shells.

* There is ample opportunity to learn more about macro photography and to work with special software to edit digital images.

* Members will learn to have attention for the molluscs within a global scope of the protection of nature, especially the study of worldwide biodiversity.

* Members will also have the opportunity to exchange specimens with fellow collectors, request information about certain shells or good shelling places, receive help with identification, or maybe just have a pleasant talk with fellow collectors.

* Generally we try to offer practical meetings, which are only succesful if each shell collector realizes he learned someting new at the end of the meeting. This can only be achieved if each participant is willing to share his knowledge with other shell collectors.

Vergaderingen

De bijeenkomsten gaan door op volgend adres:

Prinses Stefanieplein 43, 8400 Oostende (zaaltje ‘The Square House’)

In principe zijn de vergaderingen gepland op de derde zondag van de maand van ca. 9u tot ca. 12-12u30, uitgezonderd op feestdagen. In de maand juli wordt er niet vergaderd.
De agendapunten worden medegedeeld per e-mail een kleine week vooraf.
De leden maken kennis met de wondere wereld van de schelpen. Op elke vergadering zijn er één of meerdere (al of niet korte) lezingen over een reis of een excursie (meestal geïllustreerd met een reeks digitale foto’s), de bespreking van een bepaald genus of een familie.
We demonstreren hoe de leden weekdieren kunnen zoeken in het veld, met respect voor de natuur.
Inleiding tot de verzameltechniek: reinigen en prepareren van schelpen, identificeren van soorten, opbergen en classificeren van schelpen.
Nieuwe boeken en nummers van tijdschriften kunnen ingezien worden.
De collectie van mariene mollusken kan uitgebreid worden door schelpen uit te wisselen met andere verzamelaars.
Belangrijk is dat iedereen op het einde van de vergadering beseft dat hij/zij iets heeft bijgeleerd of nieuwe vrienden heeft ontdekt.
