A brief note on Babylonia zeylanica (Bruguière, 1789) and Babylonia bengalensis Gra-tes, 2025 (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Babyloniidae), pp. 25-28, pls I-II, by Frank Nolf

Keywords: Mollusca, Gastropoda, BABYLONIIDAE, Babylonia, Bay of Bengal, junior synonym.

Abstract: Shells of the genus Babylonia exhibit considerable morphological variability, both in their natural habitats and within aquaculture environments. This phenomenon has, at times, led to the premature description of new species based on minor or inconsistent differences. The present study compares Babylonia bengalensis Grates, 2025 with several specimens of Babylonia zeylanica (Bruguière, 1789), and concludes that the former should be regarded as a junior synonym of the latter. The morphological distinctions cited in support of B. bengalensis are either negligible or appear to be the result of subjective interpretation.

Geographic range extension of Acesta verstraeteni Nolf, 2025 (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Limidae) in the Southeastern Atlantic Ocean, pp. 29-35, pls I-IV, by Frank Nolf

Keywords: Mollusca, Bivalvia, LIMIDAE, Acesta verstraeteni, Acesta forteradiata, Saint Helena Island, East Atlantic, geographic range extension.

Abstract: Within a short period, two new species of the genus Acesta (LIMIDAE) have been described from the eastern Atlantic. Acesta verstraeteni Nolf, 2025 has been reported from the Azores, Madeira, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. Two months later, Acesta forteradiata Hoffman, Beuck & Freiwald, 2025 was described from Saint Helena Island. However, based on the published descriptions and illustrations, it is evident that both names refer to the same species. Accordingly, A. forteradiata should be regarded as a junior synonym of A. verstraeteni.
